В НАТО отметили 25-ю годовщину террористических актов 11 сентября в Соединенных Штатах

В пятницу в штаб-квартире НАТО в Брюсселе состоялась торжественная церемония, посвященная 25-й годовщине террористических атак 11 сентября на Соединенные Штаты. В мероприятии приняли участие постоянные представители государств-членов НАТО, а также сотрудники дипломатического, военного и международного персонала НАТО.
Заместитель Генерального секретаря НАТО Радмила Шекеринская вместе с временным поверенным в делах Миссии Соединенных Штатов при НАТО Скоттом Удкирком и военным представителем Соединенных Штатов в Военном комитете НАТО генерал-лейтенантом Уильямом Д. «Хэнком» Тейлором выступили с речами у Мемориала 11 сентября и статьи 5 в штаб-квартире НАТО.
Говоря о событиях 11 сентября, заместитель Генерального секретаря заявила: «Америка была не одна. Ваши друзья, ваши союзники были с вами тогда и остаются здесь с вами сегодня. События 11 сентября стали первым и единственным случаем в истории НАТО, когда мы применили статью 5. Один за всех и все за одного. Это обещание объединяет нас каждый день. Оно делает нас сильными и обеспечивает нашу безопасность, что бы ни случилось».
В ходе церемонии в штаб-квартире НАТО состоялась минута молчания точно в тот момент, когда 25 лет назад произошел первый удар по Северной башне Всемирного торгового центра. Заместитель Генерального секретаря НАТО заявила: «В тот ясный, безоблачный день 25 лет назад террор не победил. И террор никогда не победит».
В память о жертвах нападений и в знак уважения к жертвам, принесенным военнослужащими за прошедшие годы, флаги были приспущены в штаб-квартире НАТО, а также в Союзном командовании ОВС НАТО в Монсе (Бельгия) и Союзном командовании по трансформации НАТО в Норфолке (штат Виргиния).
