Завдяки інвестиціям в оборону забезпечуються здатність держав–членів Альянсу дотримуватися індивідуальних і колективних зобов’язань відповідно до Статті 3 Вашингтонського договору. За останніми відомостями, європейські держави–члени і Канада істотно збільшили видатки на основні оборонні потреби – майже на 20% у 2025 році порівняно з 2024 роком. Очікується, що у 2026 році п’ять держав–членів досягнуть орієнтира на рівні 3,5% стосовно основних оборонних потреб, а 17 держав–членів, за прогнозами, досягнуть орієнтира на рівні 1,5% у сфері інвестицій, пов’язаних з обороною і безпекою – все це значно раніше узгодженого в Гаазі кінцевого терміну, який визначено на 2035 рік.
