Ce mercredi (3 juin 2026), le secrétaire général de l’OTAN, Mark Rutte, le président du Comité militaire de l’OTAN, l’amiral Cavo Dragone, et les ambassadeurs siégeant au Conseil de l’Atlantique Nord se sont rendus à Kyïv.
Le président ukrainien, Volodymyr Zelensky, s’est joint à eux pour une réunion historique du Conseil OTAN-Ukraine (NUC), la toute première à se tenir en Ukraine. « C’est, en soi, un signe fort du lien qui unit durablement l’OTAN et l’Ukraine », a déclaré le secrétaire général après la réunion. « Il est important que nous soyons ici, à l’endroit même où les Ukrainiens de tous âges restent unis et se battent avec courage, convaincus que leur liberté en vaut la peine. » Le président Zelensky, le secrétaire général, le président du Comité militaire et les ambassadeurs ont également participé à une cérémonie d’hommage aux Ukrainiens tombés au combat.
Le secrétaire général et le président du Comité militaire se sont par ailleurs rendus sur l’un des sites visés par les récentes attaques russes – un centre commercial abritant aussi une station de métro dans le quartier de Loukianivka à Kyïv– où ils ont fait le point avec le chef du Service d'État des situations d'urgence, M. Andriï Danyk, sur les dégâts occasionnés. Ils se sont également entretenus avec le ministre de la Défense, Mykhaïlo Fedorov, à propos des priorités militaires de l’Ukraine. Après la réunion du NUC, les ambassadeurs ont rencontré des commandants militaires, des représentants de l’industrie et des parlementaires ukrainiens. La journée à Kyïv s’est achevée par une visite à la cathédrale Sainte-Sophie, à l’initiative du ministre des Affaires étrangères, M. Andriï Sybiha.
