Ce jeudi (13 novembre 2025), le secrétaire général de l’OTAN, Mark Rutte, s’est rendu au quartier général du Commandement allié de forces interarmées (JFC) de Brunssum (Pays-Bas), ainsi qu’au quartier général de la Force aéroportée de détection lointaine et de contrôle de l’OTAN (NAEW&CF), à Geilenkirchen (Allemagne).
À Brunssum, le secrétaire général a félicité le général Ingo Gerhartz, récemment nommé commandant du JFC, et salué le rôle majeur que joue ce commandement dans la coordination des activités militaires sur le flanc est de l’OTAN. Il a rappelé que l’Organisation avait agi rapidement et fermement lorsque la Russie a violé l’espace aérien de pays de l’Alliance, et qu’elle assure une présence forte dans les airs, en mer et sur terre.
Le secrétaire général s’est ensuite rendu à Geilenkirchen, où est stationnée la flotte des AWACS de l’OTAN. Il y a rencontré le ministre-président de la Rhénanie-du-Nord-Westphalie, Hendrik Wüst, et le général de division aérienne, Andreas Korb, commandant de la base. Il a rappelé l’importance des avions AWACS qui, véritables « yeux de l’Alliance dans le ciel », assurent la surveillance de l’espace aérien des pays de l’OTAN, y compris sur le flanc est. M. Rutte a également remercié la Rhénanie-du-Nord-Westphalie pour ses précieuses contributions à la posture de dissuasion et de défense de l’Alliance. Ce land accueille en effet des entreprises de défense de premier plan et d’importantes installations militaires, notamment le 1er corps germano-néerlandais.
