У своїй першій великій промові на посаді Генерального секретаря НАТО, пан Марк Рютте наголосив на критичній потребі збільшувати оборонні видатки і випуск оборонної продукції у дедалі більш неспокійному безпековому середовищі. Виступаючи на заході, організованому Карнегі Європа в Брюсселі у четвер, 12 грудня 2024 року, пан Рютте закликав членів Альянсу «перейти на мислення воєнного часу і збільшити в турборежимі наше виробництво оборонної продукції і оборонні видатки».
