У понеділок (9 травня 2016 року) заступник Генерального секретаря НАТО посол Александр Вершбоу відкрив дванадцяту щорічну Конференцію НАТО з питань зброї масового знищення (ЗМЗ), контролю за озброєннями, роззброєння і нерозповсюдження в Любляні, Словенія. «Зважаючи на масштаб викликів, що постають перед нами, необхідно працювати разом над розробленням більш рішучого і більш комплексного підходу до нинішніх загроз з боку ЗМЗ і РХБЯ», – сказав він.
