В среду (5 марта 2014 г.) флагман операции НАТО по борьбе с пиратством «Альваро де Базан» принял участие в тренировке сил и средств ПВО в Аденском заливе, направленной на обеспечение готовности экипажа к любым вызовам в открытом море, включая их миссию по сдерживанию сомалийских пиратов.
