Peacekeepers killed in Kosovo

A Russian soldier serving in the NATO-led peacekeeping force in Kosovo was killed during duty on 11 April. Lord Robertson stated that he "is appalled at the shooting" adding that "it is scandalous and a disgrace that international peacekeepers should now be targeted".

The newly appointed commander of KFOR, General Thorstein Skiaker, also condemned the attack and offered his condolences to family and friends. He said "This is the first KFOR soldier to be deliberately targeted and killed as a direct result of hostile action" and warned that appropriate action would be taken in response.

In an unconnected incident near Krivenik in the south of Kosovo, a British vehicle struck an anti-tank mine, killing one soldier and injuring two others. There is no indication that this incident was related to extremist activity.
