Deputy Secretary General: NATO Summit was “historic moment”
In a virtual appearance at the German Industry Day on Wednesday (23 June 2021), Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana called the 14 June NATO Summit a “historic moment for the Alliance”.
In remarks to the business conference, hosted by the BDI industry association, Mr Geoana highlighted key decisions taken under the NATO 2030 agenda, including the protection of critical infrastructure, promoting innovation, boosting partnerships, and making the fight against climate change an important task for NATO for the first time. Mr Geoana added that Allies will set national goals to increase the resilience of their societies, infrastructure and supply chains. “We also launched a new Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic to boost transatlantic cooperation on new technologies and we will create a multinational opt-in Innovation Fund to support start-ups working on emerging and disruptive technologies”, he said.
