Today (5 May 2021), NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg welcomed King Abdullah II of Jordan at NATO Headquarters.
In congratulating King Abdullah II on the first century of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Secretary General Stoltenberg pointed out that Jordan is “a very close and important partner of NATO.” “Our forces have served together side by side in the Balkans, in Afghanistan, over Libya, and Jordanian troops also participate in the NATO Response Force,” he said. “We also provide support to Jordan, help to improve border security, countering improvised explosive devices”. He highlighted that “Allies have also decided to step up and deliver some more personal protective equipment, and also some ventilators to further step up the support for Jordan” in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Secretary General Stoltenberg also underlined the importance of the joint work of NATO Allies and Jordan in the global fight against international terrorism.
The Secretary General and Kind Abdullah II discussed ways to further strengthen NATO-Jordan relations and regional security developments, including Iraq and Afghanistan.
