NATO and MD partners meet in Mauritania for the Fifth Mediterranean Dialogue Policy Advisory Group (MD PAG)
On 2-3 October 2017, the fifth meeting of the NATO Mediterranean Dialogue-Policy Advisory Group (MD PAG) took place in Nouakchott, Mauritania. The event opened with welcoming remarks by Ambassador Alejandro Alvargonzález, NATO Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy and an opening address by Ms. Khadijetou M'Bareck Fall, Minister Delegate for Africa and Maghreb of Mauritania. Representatives of NATO Allies and Mediterranean Dialogue partners participated in the meeting. In addition, high-level representatives from Libya, the European Union Delegation in Mauritania, the G5 Sahel, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and the German Marshall Fund (GMF) took part in the meeting as speakers.
The meeting focused on the state of play of NATO’s cooperation with Mediterranean Dialogue partners, as well as on complementarity with other international efforts. It was also an excellent opportunity to discuss ways to further enhance the partnership within the Mediterranean Dialogue framework.
In the margins of the meeting, NATO Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy, Ambassador Alejandro Alvargonzález, held bilateral talks with the Prime Minister of Mauritania Yahya Ould Hademineb, with Minister-Delegate for Africa and Maghreb of Mauritania, Ms. Khadijetou M'Bareck Fall, and with the Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces of Mauritania, Major General Hanana Ould Sidi.
