The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia¹ dominated the regular meeting of the North Atlantic Council -NATO's top decision-making body- and the Political and Security Committee (PSC) of the European Union on 22 August.
As well as discussing current issues, those present were briefed by the EU Special Envoy, François Léotard, on the latest developments in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia¹. François Léotard was appointed to this function end June and, together with US Special Envoy James Pardew, played an important role in facilitating the political framework agreement signed in Skopje on 13 August.
At a joint press conference held after the meeting, NATO Secretary General, Lord Robertson, the Chairman of the PSC of the EU, Ambassador Alexis Brouhns and François Léotard emphasised how crucial NATO-EU cooperation had been over the crisis in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia¹ and in the signing of the political framework agreement.
