Some serious tank hardware was on display during Iron Spear 2025 at the Ādaži Training Ground in Latvia as tank crews from nine NATO Allies went head-to-head in a tank competition.

Synopsis
Iron Spear 2025 recently took place at the Ādaži Training Ground in Latvia, bringing together NATO armoured crews from across the Alliance to compete in a series of live-fire and tactical challenges. The event tested tank crews on gunnery accuracy, crew coordination, and combat readiness under simulated operational conditions.
NATO Allies Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom participated, with crews operating main battle tanks such as the Leopard 2 and Challenger 2. The competition served both as a training opportunity and a demonstration of NATO’s interoperability and collective defence capabilities on its eastern flank. Iron Spear took place from 28 April – 3 May 2025.
Footage includes various shots of the different tanks and crews in the field as they manoeuvre and fire at the Ādaži Training Ground in Latvia, and soundbites by Lieutenant Colonel Darryn Gray, Commander of the NATO multinational brigade Latvia.

“Showcasing this firepower in these types of competitions is wonderful but it really shows the interoperability of our NATO partners and our Allies here by communicating with the Germans and the Swedish and the Canadians and the Spanish and the Italians and putting it all together, sharing those skills, reinforcing the strength of NATO while we compete in this but also as part of the overall deterrence operation.

Our role here in Latvia as well as the other Baltics and Poland states is to enhance that readiness, we’re on a combat-readiness mission here to ensure that we can provide that deterrence role but most importantly provide safety and security to the countries that we are residing in right now, specifically for us here, as this multinational battlegroup here in Latvia.”
