Statement by NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General James Appathurai on parliamentary elections in Georgia
I congratulate the people of Georgia on the conduct of the parliamentary elections on 8 October. International observers have assessed that the vote was competitive, well-administered and generally respected fundamental freedoms.
I regret that some incidents of violence took place during the election campaign. I trust that the various complaints which have been launched will be fully assessed by the competent bodies in Georgia.
I look forward to working with the new Parliament and Government, once established, to further deepen NATO’s relationship with Georgia.
