Keynote: Brave1 - Accelerating Defense Innovation Through Unconventional Procurement

Ukraine’s battlefield has become the world’s most advanced defence tech laboratory. This keynote explores how the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense and Brave1 — Ukraine’s national defense tech cluster — are rethinking the entire innovation-to-frontline pipeline.

On today’s battlefield, technological advantage exists only when procurement cycles can keep pace with the speed of defence innovation. This includes a fundamental reimagining of how defence technologies are tested, funded, procured, and deployed at scale.

From decentralised procurement through a military marketplace and a combat-points incentive system, to TRL-gated grants and live battlefield testing for international partners, Ukraine is building a wartime procurement model designed for rapid adoption, continuous iteration, and frontline advantage.

Who:
Iryna Zobolotna, Chief Operating Officer, Brave1

15:00 – 15:45

Coffee break

15:45 – 16:45

Panel 6: Collaboration & Capital: Investment in NATO-Ukraine Ventures

Equity investments into defence companies – across NATO and in Ukraine alike – are trending high at the moment. Defence investors active in Ukraine are not only crucial to financing market entrants fuelling Ukraine’s innovative defence, but are also looking at international collaboration opportunities as essential to their portfolio companies’ growth. Despite positive trends, the defence sector nevertheless remains undercapitalised, be it because of restrictions on capital flows in the first place, or because of lack of access to working capital for companies in their growth phase.

This session will spotlight the experiences of investors, including the opportunities and challenges they face, and what they look for when making investment decisions. Attendees will gain insights into the current landscape, challenges faced, and strategies for fostering innovation through investment in a dynamic environment.
