Більше половини втрат сили НАТО в Афганістані в 2011 році зазнали від саморобних вибухових пристроїв (IED)¹. Те ж саме стосується кожного третього афганця, убитого минулого року ². У 2010 році НАТО ухвалила план дій з протидії IED(C-IED), спрямований на поліпшення виявлення і нейтралізації таких пристроїв, а також знищення мереж, які їх виробляють. Агентство НАТО С3 (NC3A) відповідає за розробку новітніх технологій боротьби проти IED.
