26 липня 2009 року міністр оборони Республіки Ірак Абдул Кадер Мохаммад Яссім Аль-Мафржі, від імені уряду Республіки Ірак, і заступник Генерального секретаря НАТО посол Клаудіо Бісоньєро, від імені НАТО, підписали угоду між урядом Республіки Ірак і НАТО про навчання Іракських сил безпеки.

Ця угода стала важливою віхою у співпраці між Республікою Ірак і НАТО і демонструє потужне прагнення Альянсу працювати у партнерстві із суверенним урядом Іраку, який зосереджується на відбудові і зміцненні урядових структур.

Угода забезпечить правову основу для продовження місії НАТО з допомоги уряду Республіки Ірак в подальшому розвитку сил і можливостей іракських сил безпеки.
