The NATO-Russia Permanent Joint Council at Ambassadorial level met on Wednesday 20 September 2000, at NATO Headquarters.

The NATO-Russia Permanent Joint Council at Ambassadorial level met on Wednesday 20 September 2000, at NATO Headquarters.

Ambassadors discussed the situation in the former Yugoslavia with a particular emphasis on the political and security implications of the elections to be held in the region. They condemned the continuing acts of violence in Kosovo and confirmed their determination to continue to work towards the full implementation of the UNSCR 1244 and to cooperate in all areas, including the protection of Kosovo's minorities.

In a spirit of confidence-building and transparency, Ambassadors continued their exchange on infrastructure development programmes.

Ambassadors also addressed a NATO-Russia pilot project to open in Moscow an information and consultation centre on the retraining of discharged military personnel.

The next PJC meeting at Ambassadorial level will be held on 30 October 2000.
