The Chairman and members of the International Board of Auditors for NATO (IBAN) held talks with representatives from the Netherlands National Audit Office (Algemene Rekenkamer) on 13 October.

Participants discussed NATO’s efforts to improve financial accountability for the Alliance while maintaining security requirements.

President of Algemene Rekenkamer Ms Saskia Stuiveling gave a progress report on the office’s ongoing web-based project on Financial Transparency for NATO.

IBAN Chairman Dr Charilaos Charisis updated the Algemene Rekenkamer delegation on steps taken to reorganise and strengthen IBAN following a decision by the North Atlantic Council (NAC) in 2013.

The NAC strongly encourages IBAN to develop cooperative arrangements within the International Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) and to increase the use of voluntary national contributions.

Delegates also exchanged views on other audit-related issues and agreed to keep each other informed on future developments.

IBAN plays an important role in demonstrating NATO’s commitment to better accountability, good financial governance and improved transparency.
