Opening remarks
by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at the meeting of the North Atlantic Council in Foreign Ministers' session
(As delivered)
So welcome to all of you. We’re ready to start. Good afternoon.
Our next session is dedicated to transatlantic security. And if you please find your seats we can start this meeting.
With the deployment of their new missile system, Russia is putting the INF Treaty in jeopardy.
This new system poses a serious risk to the strategic stability of the Euro-Atlantic area.
And we are committed to take effective measures to continue to ensure the security of all Allies.
We will also take stock of our progress on burden sharing.
We are heading in the right direction.
But we must continue to do more.
Finally, we will discuss European efforts on defence.
Because it is vital that NATO and European efforts on defence complement each other.
This concludes the public part of this meeting.
And as always I thank the media for being present and we’ll continue the meeting in just a moment.
