Coronavirus response: Italian NATO Rapid Deployable Corps supports local communities and authorities in Lombardy
In response to the global COVID-19 pandemic, the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps Italy - based in Solbiate Olona north of Milan (Italy) - has been conducting and coordinating a range of activities to support the local communities and authorities of the Italian northern region of Lombardy. Lombardy is amongst the areas of Italy hit the hardest by the pandemic.<!IoRangePreExecute>
These activities are part of the ongoing efforts of the Italian armed forces since the start of the emergency. They include the deployment of a disinfection team to local civilian hospitals, helping to keep key facilities safe and sanitised for patients, as well as the delivery of critical medical supplies (such as vests, ventilators, masks, gloves, and sanitisers) and logistical support to health workers on the front line in the fight against the Coronavirus.
NATO Rapid Deployable Corps Italy (NRDC-ITA) is a multinational High Readiness Headquarters which can be quickly deployed to command and control NATO troops on missions within or beyond the territory of NATO member states. It is a battle-ready NATO formation that can effectively operate in support of all NATO core tasks, including collective defence, crisis management, and cooperative security through partnerships.
