On Friday (15 October 2021), NATO and Ukraine held a workshop on the use of hybrid tactics in multilateral diplomacy at NATO Headquarters in Brussels. Organised as part of the NATO-Ukraine Platform on Countering Hybrid Warfare, the workshop brought together decision-makers and experts from government, think tanks and academia. Participants addressed the risks of hybrid tactics, as well as possible responses.

NATO and EU discuss defence against hybrid warfare

Deputy Secretary General Rose Gottemoeller welcomed European Commissioner for the Security Union Sir Julian King to NATO on Thursday (14 March 2019), for talks on how NATO and the EU can work more closely together to counter hybrid warfare. Hybrid tactics, which include cyber-attacks, disinformation and economic interference, are increasingly used against NATO and EU member countries.

Allied Intelligence Chiefs discuss countering cyber-attacks, disinformation

The Heads of Allied Civil and Military, Intelligence and Security Organizations met at NATO Headquarters in Brussels on 29 November 2018 for talks on countering disinformation, cyber-attacks and traditional means of espionage. The conference was opened by Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, together with the Romanian Chair of NATO’s Civilian Intelligence Committee and the Canadian Chair of the Military Intelligence Committee. The Allied Intelligence officials endorsed the framework for the establishment of a NATO Intelligence Academy, and they discussed together with Partner services and the European Union about emerging technologies that have an impact on intelligence and also about NATO – EU cooperation.

NATO Deputy Secretary General to speak on Countering Hybrid Threats

On Thursday, 15 February 2018, the NATO Deputy Secretary General, Ms. Rose Gottemoeller will attend a joint German Marshall Fund – Microsoft event on Countering Hybrid Threats. Ms. Gottemoeller will deliver a keynote speech and also participate in a panel discussion.
