NATO enhancing intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance force with additional capabilities Following decisions taken at the Washington Summit, national armaments directors have agreed on a strategy to enhance NATO’s Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Force (NISRF) with additional capabilities. The agreement taken on 09 July 2024 by the Conference of National Armaments Directors (CNAD) will provide more Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities to better support the NISRF. |

Deputy Secretary General, NATO ambassadors visit Alliance Ground Surveillance aircraft in Italy Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană and a group of NATO ambassadors visited the Alliance’s fleet of unmanned surveillance aircraft stationed in Sicily, on Thursday (16 September 2021). Addressing senior officers at Sigonella airbase, the Deputy Secretary General thanked Italy for hosting the Alliance’s Ground Surveillance (AGS) aircraft, stressing that AGS is a “premier state-of-the-art capability in the field of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance”. |

This is a major milestone for the programme, which will substantially increase the Alliance’s awareness, indications and warnings of what is happening around its borders. |

Fifth Phoenix aircraft arrives at the AGS Main Operating Base On 12 November 2020 the fifth and last NATO Alliance Ground Surveillance (AGS) aircraft arrived at the AGS Main Operating Base in Sigonella, Italy. The arrival of the RQ-4D aircraft at its home base in Europe represents a new milestone in the NATO AGS Programme, completing the NATO AGS fleet. |
