Deputy Chair of the NATO Military Committee visits Montenegro

From 3 to 5 October 2024, the Deputy Chair of the NATO Military Committee, Lieutenant General Andrew M. Rohling, payed an official visit to Montenegro where he met with key Montenegrin military and political leaders. Lieutenant General Rohling also engaged with the “To Be Secure” Forum, organized by the Atlantic Council of Montenegro.

On 23-24 January 2024, the Chair of the NATO Military Committee, Admiral Rob Bauer visited Montenegro at the invitation of the Montenegrin Chief of Defence, Brigadier General Zoran Lazarević. While in Podgorica, the Chair met with President Jakov Milatovic, Deputy Prime Minister, Mr Aleksa Bečić and Minister of Defence, Mr Dragan Krapovic. He also delivered a lecture at the University Donja Gorica, titled "The road ahead, from Vilnius to Washington".

Military Committee welcomes newest member, Montenegro

Just thirteen months after the signature of its Accession Protocol, Montenegro officially became NATO’s 29th Allied Nation. Across the Alliance, NATO welcomed its newest member. The Military Committee and its Chairman, General Petr Pavel, also marked this significant event during their first meeting with Montenegro, no longer an “Invitee” but a full-fledged Ally.

Flag-raising ceremony marks Montenegro’s entry into NATO

The flag of Montenegro was raised at NATO Headquarters on Wednesday (7 June 2017) in a special ceremony to mark the country’s accession to NATO. Flag raising ceremonies were also held simultaneously at Allied Command Operations (SHAPE) in Mons and Allied Command Transformation in Norfolk, Virginia. Montenegro became the 29th member of the Alliance on Monday (5 June 2017) when it deposited its instrument of accession to the North Atlantic Treaty with the US State Department in Washington DC.

Montenegro joins NATO as 29th Ally

Montenegro became NATO’s newest member on Monday (5 June 2017), upon depositing its instrument of accession to the North Atlantic Treaty with the US State Department in Washington DC. At a ceremony marking the occasion, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg underlined that Montenegro’s accession to the Alliance contributes to international peace and security, and sends a strong signal that NATO’s door remains open. The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Duško Marković and by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro Srdjan Darmanović and was hosted by the United States Undersecretary for Political Affairs Thomas A. Shannon.

NATO launches new Trust Fund for Montenegro

NATO launched a new Trust Fund in Montenegro on Thursday (2 February 2017) which will destroy 400 tonnes of surplus ammunition in a safe and environmentally friendly way. This is the latest example of NATO cooperation with Montenegro and will help keep people safe from harm.
