NATO headquarters in Brussels with 32 flags

NATO's purpose is to safeguard the freedom and security of all its members

F-16 Fighting Falcons from the Hellenic Air Force fly in formation during exercise Ramstein Flag 25.

With over 90 aircraft from 15 NATO Allies flying out of 12 Allied air bases throughout Europe, the exercise tests NATO’s ability to perform a broad variety of air combat missions using multinational forces.

NATO's 5% commitment

At the 2025 NATO Summit, Allies made a commitment to investing 5% of GDP annually on defence and security by 2035.

Members of the Latvian National Guard prepare to simulate an attack during Namejs 18. Exercise Namejs 18, the largest held by Latvia since the restoration of its independence in 1990, played out a full call-up of the Latvian National Guard in a total defence scenario.

Strengthening NATO's eastern flank

NATO has massively reinforced its deterrence and defence posture, strengthening its readiness to protect and defend all Allies.

AS90's lined up ready to fire. The AS90 is a 155mm mobile artillery system capable of firing up to 6 rounds a minute.

The British Army has been training Ukrainian recruits on AS-90 self-propelled artillery guns, which are being donated to Ukraine. The United Kingdom has also been running a 35-day training course for Ukrainian volunteer fighters, which teaches them skills to survive in a hostile environment.
The instructors were from NATO Allies including Canada, Denmark, Finland, Lithuania, the Netherlands and Norway, as well as NATO invitee Sweden, and partner countries Australia and New Zealand.

Support for Ukraine

NATO and Allies are providing Ukraine with unprecedented levels of support, helping to uphold its fundamental right to self-defence.
