Vendredi et samedi derniers (13 et 14 février 2026), le secrétaire général de l’OTAN, Mark Rutte, a participé à la Conférence de Munich sur la sécurité. Lors d’une série d’échanges, il a insisté sur l’importance d’une Europe forte au sein de l’OTAN et du maintien de l’aide à l’Ukraine.
Le secrétaire général a déclaré à la presse que, depuis la fin de la Guerre froide, l’OTAN n’avait jamais été aussi solide. « À l’avenir, les Européens seront davantage aux commandes », a-t-il indiqué, ajoutant néanmoins que les États-Unis continueraient de s’investir pleinement dans l’Organisation. Le secrétaire général a par ailleurs souligné qu’il fallait maintenir le soutien à l’Ukraine, et il a remercié les Alliés pour les contributions militaires récemment annoncées.
En marge de la conférence, M. Rutte a pu s’entretenir de manière bilatérale avec toute une série de responsables politiques, dont le président de l’Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, le secrétaire d’État américain, Marco Rubio, la présidente de la République de Moldova, Maia Sandu, le vice-premier ministre et ministre de la Défense de l’Australie, Richard Marles, le ministre japonais des Affaires étrangères, Toshimitsu Motegi, le ministre japonais de la Défense, Shinjirō Koizumi, la ministre néo-zélandaise de la Défense, Judith Collins, et la ministre des Affaires étrangères des Émirats arabes unis, Lana Nusseibeh. Il a aussi rencontré des représentants de l’industrie et des délégations du Congrès des États-Unis.
Le secrétaire général a également participé à plusieurs réunions inscrites au programme de la conférence, notamment à un débat sur la manière de garantir à l’Ukraine un soutien à long terme, ainsi qu’à un forum transatlantique organisé par le ministre-président de la Bavière.
