Major General Dacian Tiberiu Șerban was appointed Director of the Cooperative Security Division of the NATO International Military Staff in September 2023.
He was commissioned following his graduation from the “Infantry Military Institute NICOLAE BĂLCESCU” in 1992. After his service at the Platoon and Company level, he was assigned to act as Training Battalion Commander for a period of two years at 5th Paratrooper Base.
In 2003, he joined the 1st Special Operations Battalion as Company Commander.
Major General Șerban fulfilled several key leadership assignments including Commander for the 1st Special Operations Battalion, for HUMINT Battalion and for the 6th Special Operations Brigade and was Commander of the Romanian Special Operations Command in his last assignment.
Major General Șerban has completed three combat deployments in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM and ISAF.
His military education includes the Army Brigade Course (2000), Staff and Command Master Course (2011), Military Intelligence Operational Leadership Course (2012), Military Intelligence Strategic Leadership Course (2018) and Security and Good Governance in 2019.
Major General Șerban awards and decorations include the Romanian Military Command Virtue in Knight Rank, the Honour of Romanian Army, the National Defence Staff Emblem of Honour, the Defence Intelligence Emblem of Honour the Romanian Land Forces Emblem of Honour, the Military Medicine Emblem of Honour, the Romanian Joint Logistical and Support Group Emblem of Honour, the Romanian Joint Forces Command Emblem of Honour, the Participant to Missions Abroad Badge and the Honorary Sign “In Homeland Service” for 15, 20 and 25 years of military service for meritorious results.
Major General Șerban is married and has three sons.
