(03:47) SOUNDBITE (ENGLISH) – Swedish Navy Vice Admiral Ewa Skoog Haslum, Chief of Joint Operations, Swedish Armed Forces
“It feels different, because we are now Allies. So of course it is different. It’s also different that we are not only protecting our own territory, we protect the Alliance territory, and we have the eastern flank, which we maybe didn’t see the same as we do today before. So, it is different. But still, it’s the same, because we are training together with Allies, which we did when we called them partners, or they called us partners, really. So it’s different, but it’s also very much similarities.”
(04:18) SOUNDBITE (ENGLISH) - Swedish Navy Vice Admiral Ewa Skoog Haslum, chief of operations, Swedish Armed Forces
“I think the speed, the pace has really increased. What we’re searching for is to have the total interoperable forces. And searching for that, we have actually increased our pace a lot. So I think maybe that is, but there are differences that we are not sitting, viewing the game, we are actually part of it. So it’s maybe cultural change as well, not only for the armed forces, but maybe for Sweden as a whole, from the politicians, from different authorities, agencies in Sweden.”
(04:56) SOUNDBITE (ENGLISH) - Swedish Navy Vice Admiral Ewa Skoog Haslum, chief of operations, Swedish Armed Forces
“I believe that one plus one is three, actually. So together we are so much stronger. Living in this kind of world we are today, I feel very very safe and great that Finland and Sweden joined NATO two years ago. I think that will serve us very very well.”
