Coronavirus response: NATO supports Afghan security forces and institutions tackling global pandemic
NATO maintains its operational readiness across the board, including through its mission in Afghanistan. The NATO-led Resolute Support mission stands firmly committed to support the Afghan security forces and institutions, as these continue their efforts to protect the Afghan population from terrorism and pave the way towards lasting peace in the country.
Rigorous preventative measures are being implemented to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic and ensure that our cooperation with the Afghan partners is conducted in an effective and safe manner. In recent days, the Resolute Support mission has helped get supplies to Afghan National Police in the eastern province of Nuristan, including medical and cleaning material, sanitizers and personal protective equipment.
The NATO-led Resolute Support mission is mandated to train, advise and assist the Afghan security forces and institutions. It was launched on 1 January 2015, following the previous NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).
