NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen and the President of Croatia, Mr. Ivo Josipovic.

It is a great pleasure to be back in Croatia. You are a valuable and energetic Ally, a country which understands the value of security, and cooperation.

Right now, Croatian troops are working shoulder to shoulder with NATO Allies to build security in Afghanistan and Kosovo. Croatia is working with Alliance members to develop military capabilities in areas such as logistics and helicopter training.

And Croatia is working with the countries of the Western Balkans – sharing experience and expertise, as they prepare the reforms which will move them closer to the Euro-Atlantic family.

Mr. President, I thank you, and the people of Croatia, for your commitment to NATO, and to our shared security.

Next year, we will meet in the United Kingdom for a summit which will shape the NATO of the future.

An Alliance which is equipped to deal with the full range of modern threats, and engaged with partners who share our commitment to security. An Alliance based on our most vital principles: peace, freedom, and the bond of trust and cooperation which unites the two shores of the Atlantic Ocean.

I look forward to Croatia’s support as we prepare for that summit.
