For the year 2012, Lt. Gen. Jürgen Bornemann awarded the honour to Patrick Wouters, Executive Officer of Defence Policy and Planning Division, International Staff, for his outstanding contribution to NATO while working for the IMS as Deputy Director of the Plans & Policy Division. His personal initiative and dedication went beyond his duty of Brigadier General and made a difference both to his colleagues, and to NATO as an organization.
Exceptionally for this year, Lt. Gen. Jürgen Bornemann awarded a second Medal to Mr. Ieuan Davies, Office of the Financial Controller, in recognition of his outstanding individual contribution to the IMS for the year 2012.
The NATO Meritorious Service Medal was introduced in 2003 in recognition of both operational and non-operational exceptional or remarkable service to NATO for nominated military and civilian personnel. The Medal is the personal award of the NATO Secretary General, who signs each citation. Approximately 150 Medals are awarded every year, one of which is assigned to the International Military Staff.
