NATO conducts Crisis Management Exercise (CMX).
The crisis management exercise CMX 2019 will take place between 9 and 15 May 2019. This is the Alliance’s 22nd Crisis Management Exercise (CMX) since 1992.
CMX 2019 is a NATO exercise in which the Alliance will rehearse and test its internal and partner consultation and decision-making procedures at the strategic political-military level. It will involve civilian and military staffs in Allied capitals, at NATO Headquarters and in both Strategic Commands. As with previous CMX exercises, CMX 2019 involves no deployed forces.
CMX 2019 will use a fictitious but realistic Article 4 and Article 5 crisis scenario focused on collective defence challenges taking into account the decisions taken at the Brussels Summit and previous Summits. It will include practising comprehensive responses to a complex civil-military scenario, set in a hybrid environment.
As with previous iterations of the exercise in 2017 and 2016, CMX 2019 will include the participation of Finland and Sweden as partners alongside Allies in the exercise.
CMX 19 will also include staff-to-staff exchanges with the European External Action Service, the EU Commission and the General Secretariat of the Council of the European Union.
