NATO Secretary General discusses Afghanistan, Lisbon Summit with Czech Prime Minister

On 16 September, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen welcomed Czech Prime Minister Petr Nečas on his first official visit to NATO Headquarters in Brussels.
The Secretary General expressed his appreciation for the Czech Republic's commitment to the Alliance and its important contribution to NATO’s missions and operations, particularly in Afghanistan. The Czech Republic contributes about 500 troops to the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) as well as trainers to help build the capacity of the country’s security forces.
The two leaders also discussed the upcoming Summit in Lisbon on 19 and 20 November 2010 and the adoption of NATO's new Strategic Concept. The new Concept will reaffirm the core task of territorial defence, Mr Fogh Rasmussen said, and "we want the Summit to be a visible demonstration of a modernised and strengthened Alliance". He also expressed the hope that during the Lisbon Summit, Allies can agree on building an effective European missile defence capability.
