On 26 November 2009, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen visited Berlin, where he met with Chancellor Angela Merkel, Federal President Horst Köhler and Minister of Foreign Affairs Guido Westerwelle.

Joint press point with the Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel and NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen.

During the day, he addressed the conference “NATO Talk around the Brandenburger Tor”, organised by the German Atlantic Treaty Association.

Speaking in Berlin, Mr Rasmussen urged Allies to increase their commitment to helping Afghanistan take over responsibility for their country’s security. “The more we do now, the quicker we will reach that point,” he said, adding that the price of security for all would be much higher “if we were to run away”.
