NATO-JAPAN SECURITY CONFERENCE

On 19-20 October 1994 NATO will host a
conference on "NATO-Japan security issues" at NATO
Headquarters. This will be the third such event. The
first took place in Knokke, Belgium in June 1990 and the
second in Tokyo, November 1992.
The topics of the conference are wide-ranging
and will include European security architecture, regional
stability and emerging trends in Asia, the situation in
the CIS, trilateral cooperation between North America,
Europe and Japan, and environmental questions related to
security.
The opening address of the conference will be
made by the Acting Secretary General, Ambassador Sergio
Balanzino. The Japanese delegation will be headed by the
Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Fukuda, who will
also address the opening session of the conference. The
Conference will begin at 09.30 hours on Wednesday, 19
October 1994 in the Joseph Luns Press theatre at NATO
Headquarters. The conference ends on Thursday, 20 October
1994 at 17.45. The opening ceremony and final news
conference will be open to the media.

Cadiou. The Japanese representative in the press
conference will be Mr. Sumio Tarui, Director of National
Security Policy Division, Foreign Policy Bureau, Ministry
of Foreign Affairs.

2. Accreditation
Representatives from the media who would like
to participate are kindly requested to present themselves
to NATO Headquarters, Main Entrance. Upon presentation
of a valid ID or passport and a press card, a badge will
be received which is valid for participating in the
opening address and the concluding Press Conference.
NATO Accredited Journalists may participate in these
events without further formalities.
