Coronavirus response: Romanian medical personnel and experts supporting their United States colleagues
Romanian military medical personnel and specialists in the field of CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear) left today (25 May 2020) for Alabama, in the United States, to join forces with their American colleagues, as part of NATO Allies’ response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The medical personnel (5 doctors and 5 nurses) come from emergency military hospitals across Romania, while the CBRN team is composed of five officers with extensive experience from the Romanian Defence Staff and the Romanian Land Forces.
The medical team will provide specialized support in several medical care and treatment units across the state of Alabama. Romanian medical staff will also learn from the experience of their US colleagues fighting against the new coronavirus.
The CBRN specialists, together with their American hosts, will share their experience and expertise in how to limit the spread of the new coronavirus infection, notably through biological decontamination of personnel, equipment, and terrain. The Romanian team will also share lessons learned while providing support to central and local authorities throughout the country in the fight against the pandemic.
The Romanian team is deployed to United States, Alabama, for approximately two weeks.
