Major General István Békési (HU Army) was born in Debrecen (Hungary) on 27. September 1954. He was promoted his current rank on 15 July 2007.
He joined the Army in 1973 at the Kossuth Lajos Military Academy and was commissioned as an Infantry officer on 1977. His military education: Frunze Military College in Moscow, and United States Army War College.
Since his current position he has served in a variety of command and staff positions.
After the graduation of USAWC he was assigned as Deputy Brigade commander of 25 Klapka György Mechanized Infantry Brigade.
He became the Commander of 25 Brigade on 1 February 2000. Under his command the brigade accomplished various tactical and live-fire exercises in cooperation with different units of 1 Armored Division (US), send soldiers to the various peacekeeping missions.
On 15 April 2004 he was assigned as the first Deputy of Head of Operational and Training Directorate (J3).
After one year service on 1 April 2005 he was assigned to the Deputy Head of Military Planning Directorate position, and was responsible for the operational, training and military intelligent matters.
From this position he had a 3 months tour to Bagdad, as the NATO Training Mission Iraq Chief of Training. He was responsible for the organization of in country training of different operational centers.
On 1 August 2006 he was assigned to the position of Head of Force Planning Directorate.
On 1 of July 2007 he was assigned to the position HUNMILREP
