Major General Ulf Haeussler joined the German Army in 1985 and completed his training as a Military Police officer in 1988, followed by studies at the Bundeswehr University, in Munich, with a Diploma in Business Administrations.

From 1992 to 1998, he was assigned as platoon leader, then as commander of the military police station in Ulm, followed by commanding the military police training company in Stetten.

From 1998 to 2000 he attended the Command and General Staff Officer Course at the German Defence College (Fuehrungsakademie der Bundeswehr) in Hamburg. He then became Head of the Operational Planning and Exercise Branch of the 7th Armoured Division in Düsseldorf. He was deployed as Chief of the Planning Division, Multinational Division Southeast, SFOR, in Mostar from November 2000 to May 2001.

In 2002, he was posted to Brussels to the European Union Branch of the German Military Representative to NATO and EU, as Assistant Section Chief. Back in Germany, Haeussler contributed his experience to the Army Staff in Bonn as Plans and Policy Officer NATO & EU from 2004 to 2006.

He subsequently went back to his military roots and became Commander of the MP Battalion 351 “Feldjaegerbataillon 351” in Leipzig from 2006 to 2008. During his responsibility as Battalion Commander, Haeussler was deployed to Afghanistan as Provost Marshal RC North and Military Police Commander of the DEU Contingent to ISAF. From there he was called back to the Army Staff where he fulfilled the post of the Military Assistant to the Chief of Staff from 2008 to 2010. At the end of 2010 he was appointed as Executive Officer and Military Assistant to the Chief of the German Army.

After being in Germany for a while, Haeussler was posted to Belgium again, this time to the post of the Executive Officer to the Chief of Staff, Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe. In 2013, he was appointed as Chief of Staff of the 1st Armoured Division in Hannover and during that time deployed to his third mission, as Chief of Staff TAAC-N, Mazar-e Sharif, Afghanistan. After being Chief of Staff for two years, he was posted to Berlin where he served in the Federal Ministry of Defence as Section Chief Management and Development until December 2016. While in Berlin and the Federal Ministry of Defence, he took over as Chief of Staff to State Secretary Gerd Hoofe until May 2019.

This was followed, in June 2019, by his appointment as Commander of the German Military Police Command and Provost Marshal of the Bundeswehr in Hannover and his promotion to Brigadier General. On promotion to Major General, he moved to Brussels again in Nov 2022 and is now Director Operations and Planning Division, International Military Staff at NATO HQ.

Major General Ulf Haeussler is married with two sons. He enjoys most activities in the mountains as well as in the water.
