Ambassador Gümrükçü has assumed his position as Türkiye’s Permanent Representative to NATO in January 2023. Prior to this, he served as the Director General for the Americas at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2020 to 2023.

His previous duties at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs include:

Spokesperson of the Ministry, 2012 to 2014

Deputy Director General for Policy Planning, 2010 to 2012

Head of Department at the Policy Planning Division, 2004 to 2006

First Secretary at the Policy Planning Division, 1998 to 2000

Deputy Chief of Cabinet of the Minister, 1991 to 1993

Ambassador Gümrükçü has also served in various Turkish missions abroad:

  • Ambassador to Belgium, 2017 to 2020
  • Ambassador to Georgia, 2014 to 2017
  • Political Counselor at the Turkish Mission to the United Nations, New York, 2006 to 2010
  • Defense and Political Counselor at Türkiye’s Permanent Mission to NATO, 2000 to 2004
  • Second Secretary at the Turkish Embassy in Tehran, 1996 to 1998
  • Third Secretary at the Turkish Embassy in Washington D.C., 1993 to 1996

Ambassador Gümrükçü has also attended the NATO Defense College in 2000.

Born in Ankara in 1968, Ambassador Gümrükçü studied International Relations at the Middle East Technical University, graduating in 1990. He is married with two children.
