Brigadier General Michael Rosted Bygholm (Acting)

Brigadier General Michael Bygholm was born in Copenhagen in 1960.  He joined the Military Academy in 1983 and on completion; he was commissioned 1st Lieutenant in 1986.

During his initial tour of duty, he served as an Air Command and Control Officer within the Control and Reporting Group in different geography locations in Denmark and Faroes Island. Promoted to captain in 1992 he had duty as Sector Controller at Sector Operations Center Vedbaek, north of Copenhagen. He had one year as Section Head and teacher at the Danish Air Force Academy before coming Section Head of Operations at the Control and Reporting Group.

Following promotion to major in 1997 he served as a Commander of Air Station Skagen, the Control & Reporting School and Squadron 601. In 1999 he held a position at the Danish Defence Command within Human Resource Management.

Selected to promotion lieutenant colonel in 2001 he served as Commander for the Air Defence and Control Centre East – commanding the integrated air defence of the eastern part of Denmark and was in same period the Combined Air Defence Detachment Commander at the major NATO Exercise Strong Resolve.
During the period 2003 – 2005 Michael Bygholm served as Branch Head Personnel Management at the Danish Defence Command and later at the newly establish and centralized Danish Personnel Organisation.

Promoted to colonel in 2006 he became Commander Air Control Wing situated at Air Base Karup. In 2008 he served as Division Head at the Danish Personnel Organisation and in 2010 also as acting commander.

Following his promotion to brigadier general in 2011 Michael Bygholm was serving as National Liaison Representative for Denmark at the Headquarter Supreme Allied Commander Transformation in Norfolk, USA.

In 2015 Michael Bygholm was appointed as Deputy Chief of Staff at the Plans, Policy and Coordination Staff at Defence Command Denmark in Copenhagen.

From March 1st 2018 he will serve as Deputy Danish Military Representative to NATO and EU.

Brigadier General Michael Bygholm has been awarded Commander of the order of Dannebrog and the Badge of Honour for Good Service in the Royal Danish Air Force.
Michael Bygholm is married to Connie and together they have three adult children, two sons and a daughter.
