Major General Miroslav KOCIAN was born on December 11, 1962 in Zilina, Slovakia. He commenced his military service in 1981 as a student of the Military Academy in Liptovsky Mikulas, Slovakia, which he graduated from in 1985. He also attended additional studies at the Military Academy in Brno (Czech Republic) in 1993, the Command and Staff College in Hamburg (Germany) in 2000 and the NATO Defence College in Rome (Italy) in 2008.
During his military career Major General Miroslav KOCIAN has been appointed to an array of key posts in the field of Operations, Support as well as the Slovak integration to NATO and EU; he has performed a range of tasks related to the development of fundamental policy documents, including transformation of the Training and Support Forces. In 2008, he assumed post Deputy Chief of Staff Support CC-LAND HQ Heidelberg (Germany) which he performed until 2010. During that time he was also deployed to Pristina (Kosovo) where he commanded Joint Logistic Support Group. In 2011, he was appointed as the First Deputy Chief of Defence.
Major General Miroslav KOCIAN is married to Kamila and they have one son, Miroslav. His interests include tennis, running and golf. He speaks English and German.
