(As delivered)

On Armistice Day, we remember service and sacrifice.
We think of all those that have defended our freedoms and protected our way of life.

We show our deep respect and share our heartfelt thanks,
to all those in the military,
to those who served before them,
and to those who never came home.

On this day in 1918 the guns fell silent.
The First World War was meant to end all wars.
But conflict scarred the world again,
and it threatens us still today.
So we must still stand strong.

We must never take our freedom for granted,
nor the men and women in uniform who protect it every day.

I pay tribute to all of them. And to their families.

Wherever your duty takes you,
in whatever role you serve,
carry with you our gratitude,
and our pride.
