High-level Policy Makers from Egypt visit NATO to discuss NATO-Egypt Cooperation

On 12 and 13 December, a delegation of high-level policy makers from Egypt, including representatives from several Ministries, visited NATO Headquarters for discussions with officials from the Alliance's International Staff and International Military Staff in the framework of the Mediterranean Dialogue.

Topics discussed included the Individual Partnership and Cooperation Programme between Egypt and NATO; military cooperation; NATO-Egypt cooperation under the Science for Peace and Security Programme; and opportunities of cooperation in the fields of crisis management, civil emergency planning, counter-terrorism, cyber defense, armament, logistics and medical cooperation.

During the visit, the high-level delegation held a panel discussion with Amb. Todor Churov, Permanent Representative of Romania to the North Atlantic Council, Amb. Ricardo Sessa, Permanent Representative of Italy to the North Atlantic Council, and Amb. Tryphon Paraskevopoulos, Permanent Representative of Greece to the North Atlantic Council. The group also held discussions, among others, with Mr. James Appathurai, Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs, Dr. Jamie Shea, Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Emerging Security Challenges, Maj. Gen Branco, Director of the Cooperation and Regional Security Division in the International Military Staff,  Mr. Nicola de Santis, Head of the Middle East and North Africa Section in NATO’s Political Affairs and Security Policy Division, Ms. Juliette Bird, Head of the Counter-terrorism Section in the Emerging Security Challenges Division, Mr. Michel Soula, Head of the Operations Section in the Operations Division, Dr. Deniz Beten, Senior Advisor on Science for Peace and Security, Mr. Suleyman Anil, Head of the Cyber Defense Section in the Emerging Security Challenges Division, Mr. Patrick Touzé, Head of the Policy, Plans and Partnership Section in the Defense Investment Division, and Ms. Stephanie Siklossy, Political Officer in the Middle East and North Africa Section.
