Diplomats from the Kingdom of Bahrain visit NATO
On 3 and 4 April 2012, the NATO Political Affairs and Security Policy Division organised a visit to NATO Headquarters for a group of Bahraini diplomats, who were visiting Brussels as part of NATO’s public diplomacy activities under the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative (ICI).
Topics discussed included NATO’s History and Current Issues, NATO’s new Strategic Concept and NATO’s outreach to the Middle East and the Gulf region; NATO’s military cooperation in the framework of the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative (ICI); NATO-Russia relations, NATO’s operations in Libya and Afghanistan; and emerging security challenges.
The group met with Mr. Rad Van den Akker, Speechwriter, Office of the Spokesperson, Public Diplomacy Division, with Dr. Rolf Schwarz, Political Officer from the Mediterranean Dialogue and Istanbul Cooperation Initiative Countries Section in NATO’s Political Affairs and Security Policy Division, with Major Ciprian Filimon, Staff Officer, Cooperation and Regional Security Division, International Military Staff, with Dr. Petr Lunak, Deputy Head, Partnership Section, Public Diplomacy Division, with Mr. Mihai Carp, Deputy Head, Operations Section A, Operations Division, and with Mr. Michael Rühle, Head, Energy Security Section, Emerging Secruity Challenges Division.
