NATO training courses contribute to Afghanistan’s efforts to build integrity
From 3 to 5 December, 30 senior representatives from the Afghan Ministry of the Interior took part in a "Defense Leadership in Building Integrity" course at the Police Staff College in Kabul, Afghanistan. Participants included senior civil servants and police officers as well as Afghan civilians.
The 3-day course focused on promoting best practices and strengthening transparency and accountability in the security sector. Students attended lectures and carried out practical exercises aimed at assessing the risk of corruption and its impact on society and police forces. They also looked at practical measures to reduce the risk of corruption and improve delivery of services to the people and discussed the role of the Afghan media and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in raising awareness and reducing the risks of corruption.
The course was supported by a team of subject matter experts from NATO, European Police Mission in Afghanistan (EUPOL), the World Bank, as well as trainers from the Peace Support Operation Center based in Sarajevo, Bosnia Herzegovina.
On successful completion of the course, students were awarded certificates of participation.
A train-the-trainer event and another similar course for the Afghan Army followed this event.
The “Defense Leadership in Building Integrity” course was organized by the NATO Political Affairs and Security Policy Division in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
