The North Atlantic Council (NAC) and the Chairperson of the African Union Commission Jean Ping held a constructive discussion on the latest developments in Libya on April 5th.

They agreed the African Union plays a key role in achieving an early and peaceful solution to the crisis. As NATO's Operation Unified Protector unfolds in full compliance with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1973, the Alliance will continue to maintain a close and transparent dialogue with the African Union, as well as other relevant international and regional organisations.

NATO has had very good operational cooperation with the African Union, including providing logistical and planning support to the AU mission in Somalia.
