Statement by the NATO Secretary General on EU leadership

On behalf of NATO, I congratulate very warmly Herman Van Rompuy for being named as the first ever President of the European Council, and Baroness Catherine Ashton for being appointed High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. Both are extremely well qualified for, and well deserving of their new positions. I look forward to working with them to deepen the strategic partnership between the European Union and NATO.
