North Atlantic Council meets NATO Parliamentarians
NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer and the North Atlantic Council met on Monday 16 February 2009 with a large delegation of Parliamentarians from across the Alliance - led by the President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NPA) John Tanner (USA) - to exchange views on a wide-range of topics that will be on the agenda of the upcoming NATO Summit in Strasbourg and Kehl, 3-4 April 2009.
The ongoing NATO operations, especially the ISAF mission in Afghanistan, the disccusions on a new Strategic Concept, relations with Russia, the situation in the Balkans, the defence transformation agenda and the financial crisis were the main topics of discussion.
Another part of the NPA delegation visited Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) in the afternoon of 16 February, where they met with the Supreme Allied Commander General John Craddock and other military officials.
