NATO Winter Academy in Prague
The eleventh NATO Winter Academy took place in Prague, Czech Republic, from 2 to 7 February, and focused on the theme “NATO at 60 – from experience to initiative”.
This annual event brings together high-ranking officials from NATO, foreign diplomats and international experts for discussions with graduate students and young academics from Russia as well as from other CIS countries.
About fifty students, selected on the basis of a written essay, participated in the week-long academy aimed at improving understanding of the Alliance. Briefings and workshops focused on topics related to NATO's 60 years of providing security across the transatlantic area and challenges ahead.
This year’s keynote speakers included Ambassador Jirí Šedivý, NATO Assistant Secretary General for Defence Policy and Planning, Ambassador Alexejev from the Russian Federation, and other prominent academics and officials from the Czech Republic, Latvia, Finland and Serbia.
The Winter Academy, organised in cooperation with the Centre for European Security, is one of the major public diplomacy activities sponsored by the NATO Information Office in Moscow.
