Afghan movies and movie-makers were at the forefront of a three-day film festival entitled “Silk Road Hot Spots”, itself part of the 12th Tallin Black Nights Film Festival in Estonia. The event was organized by the Estonian Atlantic Treaty Association and cosponsored by NATO and the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The selection of films included “Earth and Ashes” from Atiq Rahimi, who was recently awarded the Goncourt prize for his latest novel. The programme also featured the following movies: “The Boy who plays on the Buddhas of Bamiyan”; “Buddha collapsed out of shame”, “Kabuli kid”, “Standing up” and “Where in the world is Osama Bin Laden?”.

On the sidelines of the event, the Canadian Embassy in Tallinn organized a photo exhibition on Afghanistan and the Estonian Atlantic Treaty Association held a workshop to discuss Afghan history, politics and current situation. Among other speakers, Mr. Daniele Riggio, Political Adviser to NATO’s Senior Civilian Representative in Afghanistan, participated in the discussions through video conference from Kabul.
